Ridings Building – Dewsbury Hospital

Dewsbury Hospital commissioned Smith Smalley to design a new reception space, including a dedicated patient / visitor facility. The brief required a new structure attached to the main hospital building, which rationalised the hospital entrance space, creating a pleasant foyer at a more human scale than the existing hospital building.

The resultant design employed a free-form curved glazed screen to enclose the open plan internal space, with setbacks in the screen affording sheltered entry points. The curved theme was also reflected in the internal layout.
