Bradford - Accident and Emergency
Bradford Royal Infirmary instructed Smith Smalley to provide architectural services for a refurbishment of their existing, Accident & Emergency Department.
The project involved the modernisation of their existing main entrance zone, including a new ambulance canopy, reception area and patient waiting room.
The main entrance is announced by a ‘sweeping' steel and glass canopy. The wall beneath, echoes the form of the canopy and together these elements offer a ‘dynamic' statement of the departments' presence.
Inside the department entrance the sweeping gestures continue with curved walls that pull the new floor finishes forward, drawing occupants in. The timber reception desk maintains the curved aesthetics, drawing visitors around, into the new waiting area.
