A superstore on stilts, Burnley
In association with Taylor Woodrow Construction, the project involved the design of a 60,000 sq ft retail outlet and petrol filling station for Tesco Stores Ltd. Situated on a brownfield site close to Burnley town centre, the assignment was completed in just 26 weeks using a fast-track construction programme. The entire store is built on stilts, allowing for a large amount of car parking underneath, and is approached through a double height atrium incorporating travelators and lifts. Notable design elements are the south façade, which is glazed to full height, and the high level canopy that extends across the entire front façade.
