Communities Project

Smith Smalley rose to the challenge when Kevin Grace, Tesco Director and lifelong Scarborough Cricket fan, decided it was about time to reverse the gradual deterioration of the town's cricket club facilities. As a result Scarborough Cricket Club became Tesco's Community Project for 2011.

Care was taken when scoping the project to retain the feel and heritage of this unique setting. Once planning was granted, Smith Smalley worked with 8 of Tesco's partnering main contractors, each with their own specific areas of work to complete the rejuvenation.

The pavilion was totally refurbished with improved entrances and a direct link was introduced to the members seating area. Internal floor levels were altered and a lift added to provide disabled access. In addition, the function rooms, toilets and kitchens were all totally refurnished.

All areas of the ground were also overhauled. The dilapidated seating and toilet facilities within the popular bank were demolished and replaced. The ticket office, tea rooms, press office & scoreboards were the focus of intense improvement works.

The project came to an exciting finale on 24th March 2011 with the Tesco Property Community Day. Tesco directors and managers joined over 200 apprentices and trainees to apply the finishing touches to the project.
