Securing New Care Sector Commissions

Following on from the successful completion of the 45 apartment Extra Care facility in Wakefield, the 20 bed Care Facility for people with physical disabilities in Harrogate and the 19 bed Learning Disability Facility in Market Weighton, Smith Smalley Architects are pleased to announce two further major commissions in the care sector.

Smith Smalley has been commissioned to design a 42 bed care facility in Brighouse, West Yorkshire. The new facility will be linked to the conversion of an existing building into an Extra Care facility. The scheme is due to be submitted for full planning approval in April 2008.

The second commission is the design of a 30 bed care facility and integrated ‘care village' in Lincolnshire. The Care Facility will include a specialist dementia care centre. Extensive communal facilities will be provided, including a shop, hair salon, cafe/bar, restaurant and function room, which will be utilised by occupants of the ‘care village' and the local community.

The ‘care village' will provide apartments and townhouses for private sale along with studio apartments and individual studios, which will all benefit from the appropriate level of care required for individual occupant's needs. A small spa facility will also be provided for use by all residents of the village.

The existing hall will be transformed into a respite hotel, with all the luxuries of a hotel, with on-site care, when required. The scheme is due to be submitted for full planning approval in May 2008.
